The region of Baden-Württemberg in Germany has some of the most beautiful cities in the country and Stuttgart was one of my favorite because is rich in culture and architecture. I visited the Plaza Square, The Mercedes-Benz Museum, The Ritter Chocolate Factory and many more wonderful spots. 

However, now more than ever, I find it so inspiring the way that Germans live. Despite going through a dark period in their history, they have managed to lift their spirits and work towards changing the negative stereotype they have carried for over 70 years.

To me this is so relevant as in America we are going through changes that have brought upon fear and uncertainty to our lives. We have been faced with the challenge to have to demand our rights to be upheld and our values to be preserved. As we approach political issues differently, at the end it comes down to basic humanity, and to the following thought:

In 5-6 years our children’s Social Studies and Government books will be reviewed to add current information. When that happens: how do you want your kids to perceive your position? As someone who condoned injustices and unkindness, or someone who condemned bigotry and racism?

Do you want them to compare you to German citizens who watched their country, and the world burn, but chose to stay silent? Or do you want them to compare you to those silent heroes who fought for the lives of others, even putting their own safety at risk?

Do you want them to think of you as someone who has true Faith and follows the guidance of the Prophets- may that be Jesus, Moses, Mohammad, Buddha, etc-, who taught us to open our arms to those in need, and be there for those less fortunate? Or do you want them to see you as someone who picks and chooses verses from Sacred Books- may that be The Bible, Torah, Quran, etc- as they are convenient to you?

Do you want them to see you as a strong and fair person who stood by others and put his/her personal interests aside for the greater good? Or someone selfish who pushed his own agenda disregarding how it was affecting others, and instead benefitted from the momentum?

Do you want them to love their planet, fight to conserve it and protect it, and respect their fellow human race? Or do you want them to watch you standby as regulations are put in place to let our planet go to waste and allow fellow citizens to be treated inhumanly?

When this is all said and done: Who do you want to be in the eyes of your children? Will you be someone they will be proud of, or someone they will be ashamed of? That is what you need to ask yourself. Then, decide what kind of course you want to take.

I know I want my kids to see me as someone who stood up for others, when they were not able to stand up for themselves. I want them to see me actually practicing the values I preach on them, and being a good role model, and moral compass in their lives.

La región de Baden-Wurrtenberg en Alemania tiene unos de los paisajes más bonitos del país. La ciudad de Stuttgart fue una de mis favoritas por su riqueza en cultura y arquitectura. Visité él Palacio Real, él Museo Mercedes-Benz, La Chocolatería Ritter, y muchos otros lugares. 

Sin embargo lo que mas me inspiro es la manera como viven los Alemanes. A pesar de haber vivido una época muy oscura en su historia, ellos han trabajado fuerte por mejorar su imagen y subir su espíritu, y cambiar un estigma negativo de más de 70 años. 

Hoy más que nunca, con la atmósfera de miedo e incertidumbre que se respira en Estados Unidos, es relevante referenciar estas situaciones políticas. Se nos ha presentado él reto de tener que defender nuestros derechos y exigir que se preserven nuestros valores. Como cada persona ve esto diferente, tenemos que enfocarnos en simplemente lo que es considerado básicamente humano, y por eso analiza lo siguiente: 

En 5-6 años los libros de Historia y Gobierno de nuestros hijos seran renovados, cuando eso pase colo quieres que ellos perciban tu posición ante todo? Como alguien que condonó injusticias o alguien que condenó él racismo? 

Quieres que te comparen a los Alemanes que vieron su país y él mundo arder y prefirieron quedarse callados? O te comparen con aquellos héroes silenciosos que arriesgaron su vida y seguridad por salvar a otros?

Quieres que piensen que tienes una Fe verdadera y sigues las guianzas de tus Profetas- sea Jesús, Moisés, Mohammad, Buddha, etc- de abrirle los brazos a los que mas los necesitan y ser un apoyo para los menos afortunados? O quieres que te vean como alguien que escoje los versos de Libros Sagrados- como la Biblia, Torah, Quran, etc- que le convienen pero desestima él resto de los Principios y Mandamientos?

Quieres que te consideren una persona justa y fuerte que se une a la lucha de los demás, poniendo sus intereses personales por él bien común? O como alguien egoísta que empuja su propia agenda y se beneficia del momento, sin importarle las consecuencias en la vida de los demás?

Quieres que te admiren por defender y proteger a nuestro planeta, y respetar a todos los seres humanos aunque tenga diferentes visiones, religiones, o estilo de vida? O quieres que que te vean inmute mientras leyes se ponen en pie que pones en riesgo él bienestar de muchas personas y desprotegen a nuestro planeta?

 

Cuando todo esto termine: Quien quieres ser ante los ojos de tus hijos? Alguien de quien se sientan orgullos o alguien de quien sientan vergüenza? Eso es lo que necesitas preguntarte para saber que acciones tomar en este momento. 

Yo sé que quiero que me vean como alguien que mantuvo los mismos principios y valores que ha tratado de inculcarles, alguien que práctica lo que les enseña, y que trata cada día de ser un compás moral positivo en sus vidas.
