How To Feel Great After Becoming A Mom

I have to admit that since I gave birth to my last child I have not been able to feel the same about myself. I mean, I went from a 7 pound daughter to a 9.4 pound son! Trust me, it was quite a shocker, but needless to say my body changed, and so did I. Suddenly I began to lose my self-confidence, feel a little odd about form-fitting clothes, and shy away from bright colors. In reality I had no reason for it, so I have decided to stop, and come to terms with the new me.

Even though I’m still in considerate good shape after 2 kids,

it is challenging to feel attractive and beautiful when we look at ourselves in the mirror, and don’t see the same person we were used to seeing. In addition, the over-glorification of the body by the media does not help either. When you become some sort of a public figure, there is a pressure to look polished at all times, but why allow outside judgments to temper with our sense of self? If we are healthy and feel great, then regardless of what others think, we must not make ourselves feel less than anyone else.

Now I say: So what? Change is not bad when it comes after such huge blessings as healthy children. As moms we must remind ourselves that our bodies are prove of the miracle we have been part of and embrace it even by rocking crop tops! Looking back, I think it has been this trend what has reminded me that we only look as good as we feel we do!

1. This is very true- I felt great after my first, lost all of the weight and bounced back without any real issue.
However, I haven’t after the other two babies and am going through that body image issue right now. I think you look fantastic. If that’s you post two babies, you’ve got nothing to worry about lol.
    Fab dress.

  2. You look so beautiful and very stylish. I had my baby a year ago and still working on shedding the weight i gained. It’s not easy since I have gotten busier and barely have time to exercise.

  3. Ladies, quit blaming the media – they are irrelevant and NOT REAL. It is NORMAL to change after having kids. It is NORMAL to see yourself differently. learn to love that new person and embrace it. Don’t allow yourselves to become a victim!

    1. This posts is about learning to take charge of our sense of self and embracing the changes. However, media does play a part on the way women perceive themselves, specially when they’re young and impressionable.
Been insecure and self-conscious is not something that any mom would choose to be, but is not that easy to accept ourselves after becoming a different person. Saying so does not mean been a victim, but having the strength to acknowledge we are imperfect, and have inner challenges to overcome.
Any woman, regardless of their body type, will tell you they had to struggle with going from been a woman to becoming a mom. Whoever says otherwise, is lying.

  4. You look great to be a mom of 2. My youngest was 9 lbs and it is different than my first two which were only 6 lbs each. Confidence is where it’s at. If you feel great people will see you as looking great!

    1. Don’t worry and hang in there! I literally gained 40 pounds with my 2nd one, and only 20 with my 1st. I was in bed rest for about 4 months so I know it can be hard, but you know is all worth it!

  5. i cannot believe you are a mom of two! you really look sexy + in such good shape. i was not able to get rid of the bulging mid-section even after almost 5 years of giving birth. i think i must really take on that aero class! it does pay to be confident + feel good about ourselves whatever shape we changed into after giving birth to our kiddos! 🙂

  6. Oh I love that outfit and the hat goes with it very well. I too have seen that change in the mirror after having two kids. I don’t like it but finally broke down and got a gym membership and I start monday. I too think the media puts too much on image and not enough on who people are, on the inside.

  7. You look amazing!!
I totally agree that having a child is an amazing thing for a body to do, and I think it’s so sad that women feel their bodies are somehow lesser after doing so.

  8. It is true that the media puts too much pressure on us. You have nothing to worry about — you look beautiful! Love the outfit.
