Layer Like A Pro!

New York has been below zero temperatures for the past 2 weeks. Needless to say, New York Fashion Week was anything, but a breeze. After noticing -read stalking because of FOND, how cold it really was, I couldn’t help but feel a little glad I saw it from my 70 degree weather! This year, I had too may family commitments that would not allow me to travel on those dates, so I decided to share this outfit I didn’t post from last year where I layered like a pro! I wore a silk long sleeve shirt under a crop top – yes your read that right -, a skirt with wool lined leggings, a faux-fur Eskimo parka, and high-knee leather boots. The trick is to go for easy-going fabrics that will warm you up without making you look bulky, and to go for a color scheme that complements each other.

What made me sad, besides not spending my 30th bday with my best friends, was that I was not going to be able to close my MBFW chapter in a  proper way. As you might know already, New York Fashion Week will no longer be sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, or be held at the Lincoln Center. I have nothing, but fond memories, from the event formerly known as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. I met people who I totally adore, was able to interview amazing designers, see the most fabulous fashion shows, and learn so much more about this industry that I feel proud to be part of.

It has been a crazy hectic 2 weeks twice a year for the past 3 years, and I wouldn’t change anything about this incredible journey. Sometimes in life we need closure to move on with new life stages and projects, and is only fair to say goodbye reminiscing of the good times, and learning from the challenging ones. I am looking forward to the changes and welcoming them with open arms!

Today we ring in a new year, and I can’t help but look back into what 2014 brought into my life. Many changes in my personal life, growth in my professional life, and tons of new experiences that have shaped me and made me stronger. I had many struggles and difficult moments, but with each of them, came a hug or kiss from my kids. They’re the ones making me move forward into a positive direction, and encouraging me to continue appreciating what really matters in life.

I was able to see my children enjoy so many things that come directly from my work. Like taking my daughter to meet Katy Perry or doing a Johnson’s Baby campaign with her. I had the chance to travel again to Colombia after a long 8yr absence. It was the most uplifting, energizing and reinvigorating press trip because it meant been with family. I was given the opportunity to share my thoughts and opinions on fashion, beauty, travel, entertainment and technology for many great publications, and bring exposure to brands I deeply love.

I have to admit it: Jeremy Scott is one of my favorite people in the fashion industry. American Express spoiled me with an exclusive invite to MADE Fashion Week at Milk Studios for a fun afternoon of hair styling, delish bites, and A-list fashion! I wore my fave Express black/white tweed slacks and white silk top, with a Burlington Coat Factory black leather jacket, and a Style Mafia hula hoop bag. There I had the chance to meet him and interview him for the BeKind Nov issue of BELLO Magazine. I’m more than excited to share the cover feature with hottie Colin O’Donoghue from Once Upon A Time!

Jeremy’s collaboration with Miley Cyrus came in a very organic way because they are friends, so when he mentioned how she should design jewelry for the show, she agreed in a heartbeat! Continue reading

A Blushed Ugly Duckling Turned Into A Swan!

Once upon a time, I wore glasses, had braces, suffered from blonde unmanageable curly hair, and was as skinny as a toothpick! My personal transformation went beyond a physical change. It meant growing emotionally, professionally, and accepting my flaws while embracing my good qualities. Although I have blossom, I still don’t take myself too seriously, and compliments still manage to make giddy like a little girl. When I’m flattered, I get totally blushed! Can’t help but turn red like a tomato, feel hot like if I was on fire, and become somewhat claustrophobic. Needless to say, I don’t take compliments very well. Perhaps I have the Ugly Duckling Complex?…

So, what better way to get over that trauma than by turning into a swan? For me, nothing makes me feel more like a princess than wearing some tulle, which it’s why I love this black and blush PrettyODD Boutique dress.

Dee as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s!

Hello Darlings,

Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Audrey Hepburn were a match made in Hollywood heaven.  Holly Golightly, played by Hepburn, is one of the most iconic characters in film history. The carefree New York “socialite”, seduced the audience with her pearls, diamonds and cigarette holder, all wrapped in the most sought-after piece of clothing of all times: The Little Black Dress. Even 50 years later, the imagery and styling of this movie it’s still relevant and influential in the world of fashion and beauty, and I could not miss the opportunity to play dress-up for a day!
