The Great Gatsby its one of my favorite books. Since the 1st time I read it, the story and the characters truly captivated me. I was a Daisy dreaming of finding my own Gatsby one day. At that moment I was about 13yrs old and a lot has changed ever since; however, I have not lost my fascination for the decadent and opulent 1920′s era. About a year ago in Electric Gatsby I referred to this amazing piece of literature.

The upcoming release of the movie will only bring more attention to flapper dresses, bejeweled headbands, hats, chunky diamonds and short hair. Once upon a time, sadly, nail-art did not exist! The concept of painting our nails consisted on learning how to master the french tip, use only nude/light pink/clear nail polish and keep the wild colors: red (considered for trashy girls) and black (reserved for grunge/punk rockers) out of the medicine cabinet. Thankfully, time and perceptions about what’s acceptable for women have changed! Starting with the many names (polish, lacquer, nail gloss, etc), this old-school trend has turn into a modern-day obsession. Nails are no longer just a body part, they have become an important accessory!

Just as a handbag or a necklace help us complement or contrast an outfit, nail art give us the opportunity to express our mood, season, color preferences, and the current fashion trends. Hace mucho tiempo atrás el Arte para las Uñas no existía. El concepto de pintar nuestras uñas consistía en aprender a hacerlas a la francesa, usar tonos pasteles o claros, y mantener los colores atrevidos como el rojo (considerado para las chicas fáciles) y el negro (sólo para rockeras grunge o punk) fuera de nuestro gabinete. Afortunadamente los tiempos han cambiado y también las percepciones acerca de lo que es aceptable para las mujeres. Comenzando con la variedad de nombres (esmalte, laca de uñas, esmalte brilloso, etc) esta tendencia clásica se ha convertido en una obsesión moderna! Ahora las uñas no son sólo una parte de nuestro cuerpo sino que se han convertido en un importante accesorio.

Así como una cartera o un collar nos ayudan a contrastar o complementar un atuendo, el Arte de las Uñas nos permite expresar nuestro ánimo, las temporadas, nuestras colores preferidos y lo que está de moda. Es una manera de usar símbolos, líneas y objetos que hacen parte de nuestra vida como inspiración, y así darle un toque divertido a esta rutina de belleza. Con la ayuda de distintos colores, un cepillo delgado, calcomanías para uñas o adornos podemos llevar nuestras manos de muy femeninas, modernas o alternativas a futurísticas o chic.

During my amazing trip to New York City, for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, I had the incredible opportunity to play blogger-model for some brands including Covergirl and StyleCoalition. The invitation to attend their ultra VIP bloggers-only lounge came at a great time as the exhausting schedule of shows was draining my energy!

Not only was the lounge located at the iconic Empire Hotel, home of Chuck Bass during Gossip Girl, which its 2 steps away from the Lincoln Center. The soiree was packed with beauty experts ready to do our hair, make-up and nails. I received the luxurious treatments while sipping on champagne, savoring delish plates, uploading photos on the new TouchSmart by Hewlett-Packard, getting my step and repeat pics taken, and watching the live streams of the MBFW shows.

Representing Miami, aside from myself, were Daniela Ramirez from Nany’s Klozet and Ria Michelle. Celebrity Manicurist Nails By Mar y Soul did my nails with a Trina Turk Fall 2013 inspired design! Loved the bright colors and the stripes, which are so on trend!

Hola Bellezas!!

Durante mi viaje a Nueva York por la Semana de la Moda de Mercedes-Benz tuve la oportunidad de ser una de las bolgeras-modelo para diferentes marcas incluyendo Covergirl y StyleCoalition. La invitación para atender la exclusiva sala de relajación para blogeras no pudo haber llegado en un mejor momento ya que mi agitada agenda de shows me estaba sacando el último poquito de energía que tenía.

El evento fue realizado en el icónico Hotel Empire, casa de Chuck Bass de la serie Gossip Girl, el cual está a dos pasos del Lincoln Center donde toma lugar MBFW. Expertos en el cabello, uñas y maquillaje se encargaron de arreglarme y consentirme mientras tomaba champagne, comía deliciosos platillos, pasaba mis fotos al nuevo TouchSmart de Hewelett-Packard, me tomaba las fotos en el cartel oficial y veía los shows de MBFW en vivo.

Además de mí, estuvieron Daniela Ramirez de Nany’s Klozet y Ria Michelle, otras blogeras de Miami. La experta en manicura de las celebridades Nails by mar y Soul me hizo un diseño inspirado en la nueva colección otoño-invierno 2013 de Trina Turk. Me encantaron los colores vibrantes y las líneas horizontales que son la última tendencia en las pasarelas.

When it comes to fashion there are certain designers who always nail their niche. Whether their audience its sophisticated, bohemian, classic, edgy or sexy, they know what their buyers like and what their brand means to the public. Some try to venture into different territories without much success; however, there are others whose taste and design it’s so precise that no matter if they go beyond their comfort zone, the collections always come out impeccable. Diane Von Furstenberg is a master at this.
